LeadershipLeadership means organizing a group of people to achieve specified tasks (companys goals).

Motivation is an integral part of leadership.

The motive is the inner reason (impulse) for particular behaviour.

Leadership is realized through direct and indirect effects:

Direct effects = workers are given particular tasks and these tasks are supervised by management

Indirect effects= staff motivation

Both types should be appropriately combined in order to achieve the most effective leadership.Leadership

Workers performance depends on his abilities, conditions and motivation.

Basic principles of motivation:

Manager needs for effective leadership following:

to know their subordinates their personality, abilities and character - to know a type and an extent of work performed by workers

- to have leadership experience

Assumptions for effective leadership

Effective leadership can be divided into 3 groups:

1) ineffective leadership = a group of workers does not change their behaviour according to the managers wishes

2) successful leadership = a group of workers will change their behaviour thanks to the managers effort

3) effective leadership = is considered as an effective leadership; moreover, workers feel personal satisfaction and benefit from their activitiesEffective leadership

Leadership stylesLeadership style = a way of managers behaviour to his subordinate units.

Leadership theory distinguishes many different leadership styles and emphasizes that there is not the only correct leadership style. None of the leadership styles can be used in any situation.

Leadership styles (the most often):

autocratic democratic liberal

Autocratic styleIt is based on the commandsManager requires and monitors their performanceHe makes decisions on his own He does not cooperate with subordinates

Democratic styleHe works with subordinates and listens to their viewsHe has a natural authorityHe makes the final decisions by himself

Liberal styleHe does not use commandsHe does not affect the activities of subordinatesThe decisions are made by subordinates

ManagementIt includes managerial activities such as planning, organizing.Not all activities are focused on the interaction between managers and their colleaguesIt is focused on logical and rational aspects

Leadership It refers to the direct effects of peopleIt is focused on the emotional aspectIt is only a part of the management

Leadership is doing the right things while managing means doing the things right.
