Lubrication of engines and gearboxes

Meaning of lubricationReduction of friction among movable and stationary engine partsPreservation of combustion enginesCooling of some parts of combustion enginesMinimisation of worn combustion engines 'partsTypes of lubrication:Forced with a pumpBy spraying spraying of lubricant by movable parts movementLubrication of engines and gearboxes

Oil panIn the lowest engine or gearbox partIt is used to gather excess oil Oil pumpMost often internal gear pumpFilter pumpLubricating channelsThey ensure oil supply to all parts of engine or gearbox parts Oil filterOil filtrationIf filter is blocked, then oil is bypassed. Lubricating engine system

By contact of toothed wheels there happens:Teeth rollingSlippingSlipping mostly participates in gearbox heatingHigh temperature can destroy toothed wheelsMeaning of gearbox lubrication:Increasing of gear efficiencyTemperature decreasingGear durabilityImpurities flashing off

Lubricant separates friction surfaces from each other by very thin layerThe layer must be thicker than unevenness on toothed wheels surface

Lubricant function in gearbox

Materials with very good slipping featuresThey are mostly used in combination with oilRequirements for solid lubricantsAbility of attaching to at least one of contact surfacesChemical stability at required temperatureTo be ecologicalEasy applicationTo be economicalExamples of solid lubricants:Graphite, PTFE, tin, gold, lead, silverSolid lubricants

They are frequently combinations of soaps and oilsThey are often used to small industrial gearboxesAdvantages:They do not have stop start effectThey solve problems of sealing working spaceThey have wider range of temperaturesThey seal in water tooThey stay on the placeDisadvantages:Lower removal of heat from the contact compared to oilThey are not suitable for high speedsThey do not clean contact surfacesRelief lubricants

Mixture of basic oil and additivesBasic oils are mineral or syntheticAdditive influence:Resistance to getting oldLow-temperature feathersProtection against corrosionBasic oil influence:Thermal stabilityRemoval of heatLiquid lubricants

DrippingLubricant drops on lubricated surfaceBath in oil (spraying)Oil is sprayed by movement of gearbox partsIt is not suitable for high-speed gearboxesCirculation lubricationSee Engine lubricationPressure lubricationIt is lubrication by compressed air with added some quantity of oilWays of gearbox lubrication

Explain the difference between circulation lubrication and lubrication by spraying
