What did you like about your image?I liked how magnificent Cinderella’s dress looked on her.

What would you improve if you did it again?I would have improved the coach by using brighter colours and I would have outlined the drawing darker.

A Cinderella Story I picked A Cinderella Story as my illustration because you can

understand the concept easily by the graphics. This book is from Disney which shows children’s fairy tales. The godmother changes the pumpkin into a coach and

Cinderella’s cloth rags into a magnificent ball gown. These fantasies make the child be in awe and admiration of the main character.

The story has a powerful, visual imagery which would appeal to any child.

This particular story is good for a mother-daughter to read together because the illustrations would entice the child to want to hear/read the story.

Illustrations are often used to convey the theme/mood of the story.

ProposalStory Overview

The mother duck lays eggs. All of them hatch, except for one. The mother notices that this particular egg is bigger than the rest. When the egg is finally cracked open, she is puzzled by the fact that this UGLY creature is hers. She compares and contrasts The Ugly Duckling to her beloved ducklings. As a mother she is protective of this particular duckling, as she sees him being shunned by the others.The ugly duckling couldn’t cope with all these hardships, so he went his own way. After a few months, you find out he has changed into a beautiful swan. His actions show how daring and hopeful he is, no matter the circumstance. His change of heart and physical appearance has allowed him to fly home to his mother.

Production MethodsThe methods I am using are: • Rotoscoping• Shape warping• Illustration • Photography

Rotoscoping- I would use this method mostly because it helps to outline the characters as well as the art style. Shape warping-Helps to distort the image to make it look similar to the original picture.

Illustration- To show the physical appearance and transformation of the ugly duckling turned into a beautiful swan. It is best to draw and colour these visual images by hand, because it helps to give a realistic effect to the reader.

Photography- I would use photography to help capture the animals. Then edit the images in Photoshop. I would also pay special attention to the ducks’ faces because it helps to convey the mood and theme .

Audience

My story is for children aged 3-7. The reason I selected this age group for my book is because the reader would be more drawn to the images and have more knowledge about animals in their environment. The The Ugly Duckling is for males and females. There is a moral behind this story which allows adults to easily convey to young children.

Reference audience appeal-The duckling is rejected by the other ducklings because he is UGLY. Then he turns in to a beautiful swan and is finally accepted by the other swans. Joy and acceptance is revealed in the end. Throughout the book, emotional appeal is showed through images and strong descriptive language. This emotional appeal is more likely to attract a female audience but the fact that the duckling is male, would help to attract a male audience.

The strengths of the proposal is that it is very informative and explains every detail. It gives you a clear view of what you are going to use and why you may us it.

In the production methods you could explain in more detail about why you are using these certain aspects. You could explain more about the story and go into more depth. You could explain where the audience will come from and what hobbies that people reading the book are into.

In the mood board you show a wide variety of types of ducks you are going to use. You explain what exactly you are going to use within the mind map.

One by one all the eggs break open.All except one. This one is the biggest egg of all.Mother duck sits and sits on the big egg. At last it breaks open, "Tchick, tchick!"Out jumps the last baby duck. It looks big and strong. It is grey and ugly.The next day mother duck takes all her little ducks to the river. She jumps into it. All her baby ducks jump in. Final ScriptPage 1- During the summer, the mother duck waited expectantly on her five eggs in her nest on the shady bank.

Page 2- When the last egg finally hatched. All the eggs hatched except for one

Page 3- The mother duck was surprised to see… such an ugly duckling.The UGLY duckling caused a stir as soon as he was born. The mother duck was so surprised about her extraordinary duckling’s appearance. She treated THE UGLY DUCKLING as an alien creature that did not exist. 

Page 4- “You’re the ugliest duckling we have ever laid eyes on,” quacked the wild ducks. “Are you a duck?” said the cockerel.  Page 5- The duckling soon got tired of all the remarks made about his appearance. He got very sad as he realized he was indeed different to the other ducklings. He ran away because he wasn’t happy there.

Final ScriptPage 6- As the seasons changed, time went by. Page 7- The ugly duckling looked everywhere but he still could not find food he longed for. Overtime the duck has begun to wander in search of food.

Page 8-The lake was so frozen that the poor duckling couldn’t break the ice.He came across a lake. He used all his strength to break the ice…

Page 9- A farmer noticed the lifeless bird.A farmer was hurrying past the lake to get back to his house in time for dinner, when he noticed the lifeless bird.  

Final ScriptPage 10- He noticed his wings were badly damaged. He took him home to see what could can be done to save him.  Page 11- The ugly duckling thanked the farmer and waddled off back to see his mother. Duck turns into swan. He returned home to see his mum. 

Page 12- But when he arrived his mother didn’t recognize him because the once ugly duckling had turned into the most beautiful swan!
