Raster Graphics

• Give a definition of Raster GraphicsRaster Graphics are made up of bitmaps which are made of pixels that records the colorInformation of the section of a certain image.

Vector Graphics

• Give a definition of Vector Graphics

Vector graphics are made up of vectors/paths which are defined by a start and end points, with curves points and angles between them.

JPEGStands For Joint photographic experts group

Used For/Example JPEG has been used of photographs and web formats. Photographs that have been released on social media sites like Facebook have been saved as JPEG.

Advantage They are very easy to save and can be used for releasing in web formats

Disadvantage Looses quality with multiple edits due to compression and recompression when editing.

Page 6: File types pro forma(1)

TIFFStands For Tagged Image File Format.

Used For/Example Desktop publishing, Magazines.

Advantage TIFFs can save multi-page documents to a single TIFF file.

Disadvantage TIFF can loose compression when editing.

GIFStands For Graphics Interchange format

Used For/Example GIFs have been used for short digital animations on the internet.

Advantage They are simple to make. They have have lossless compression so that the file size can be reduced without too much distortion.

Disadvantage They can slow a webpage down, Too few frames in the animation results in iffy animation.

BMPStands For Bitmap Image File

Used For/Example It has been used for storing two-dimensional images both monochrome and colour.

Advantage There is no loss in compression when editing.

Disadvantage It has a very large file size.

PSDStands For Photoshop Document

Used For/Example It has been used for Image Manipulation. Front covers for magazines.

Advantage Saves Layers, page formatting information, swatches etc , Supports Transparency

Disadvantage The file size can get large if you are working on a image with hundreds of layers.

AIStands For Adobe Illustrator Art

Used For/Example Creating Logos

Advantage They have no loss in definition so they can be scaled big and small.

Disadvantage It takes a while of learning in order to fully master it and you have to have a specialist software to open.

Page 12: File types pro forma(1)

FLAStands For Flash file.

Used For/Example Animation and games.

Advantage It is capable of producing high quality files from a small file size.

Disadvantage Very difficult to start of with and you do have limited software to work.

Page 13: File types pro forma(1)

WMFStands For Windows Metafile

Used For/Example Logos creation.

Advantage Can be scaled big and small because vectors don’t loose their detention.

Disadvantage You can only find WMF on widows platforms.

File Format Capture and Optimising

CompressionDefinition Lossy compression is the way in which

files sizes are reduced by reducing the amount of information that is saved.

Advantage Lossy compression files are easy to open and use and are quick to send.

Disadvantage Images become more pixelated as they are compressed and you can loose data

Image CaptureMethod Scanner

How is it used for image capture of graphics

You can digitize physical images like sketches, media products and physical photos.

Method CameraHow is it used for image capture of

graphicsTaking pictures

Method Graphics TabletHow is it used for image capture of

graphicsIt gives you complete control of drawing selection and digital hand drawing by controlling the mouse like a pen.

OptimisingWhy would you optimise? Images are optimised to make sure they

are viewable on the internet before uploading.

How can you optimise? You can optimize by changing the image size in Photoshop and reducing the depth.

Advantage to optimising They are able to make images viewable to others before uploading and uploads are a lot shorter.

Disadvantage to optimising Optimising an image reduces the amount pixel information.

Storage

Page 19: File types pro forma(1)

File SizeWhat could affect a Working Scale (Photoshop) document file size?

Having loads of information on a file can take up a lot of room on your computer and other aspects such as editing shapes in the image can take up the file size.

How could you reduce the file size of a Working Scale document without

affecting quality?

Reducing the depth in the images can help you reduce your file size.

What is an advantage of scaling up images before exporting?

Scaling up a image can result the images looking less pixelated when exporting it.

What is a disadvantage of scaling up images before exporting?

Scaling the image up might increase the file size which may affect your work.

File Naming ConventionsWhat naming conventions could you use when creating your video game assets?

• You can save your file of your game character as that characters name or you could use save other assets as the names as the things they are supposed to be so you don’t get confused.

Why is it a good idea to accurately name your assets?

It is best to do that so you don’t confuse your game with other assets that you are no longer using in your game.

Page 21: File types pro forma(1)

Asset ManagementWhy would you use folders when storing

your assets? It makes your work a lot easier to find so that you can use later one rather than saving it in a computer where it is likely to get lost.

What folders would you create and what would you save within them

• I would create a folder for each part of the topic that we have been working on and what we have been making within that so the work does not get mixed up and I don’t loose them.
