Th« monthly meeting of the B oard of Managers of the East Hampton Free Library was held on Thurs., Sept U at 2:30 o'clock in the Library's Red Room with thirteen members and our Librarian present.
Minutes of the August meeting were read and approved.The treasurer's report was read and approved. There is a balance of #2635.11 in
the operating account^ #2681.13 in the Thomas Moran Custodian Account, and S539*U9 in the East Hampton History account.
Mrs. Cheney read the Long Island Report Jill"id and the librarian'sreport.' She mentioned that the Hedges Room was overcrowded and suggested that the House Committee be authorized to dispose of the large arm chairs. She also mentioned that several people had asked whether letters requesting donat ons were to be sent out this year. A library assistant is needed to replace MissValsrie Green who has resigned. A motion was made by Mrs. Nichols that a committee be appointed ty the Board to meet with Mrs. Cheney to approve the new assistant. Motion was seconded and carried and Mrs. Dayton appointed the following to this committee; Mrs. Thomas Day, Mss Ruth
approved and placed on file.Mrs. Roberts, reporting for the Grounds Committee, thanked cominittee members for
their cooperation and help. The bird bath had been repaired but was since found off its pedestal and replaced again. She mentioned that the lawns needed special care and that top soil would be brought in and grass seed planted in the worst spots. She also mentioned the box wood at the front entrace which is slowly dying, and feels that more fill should be put in the back parking lot.
Mrs. Dayton reported that the Advisory Board will meet Septanber 13 to discuss joining the County library plan.
The secretary was instructed to write a thank-^you note to Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Davis of the Episcopal Church for the punch given for the Library Tea. Mrs. Nichols will writs the ^-rarden Club thanking them for the many lovely floral arrangements.
ThJI mecretary was instructed to write a note to Mrs. George Odell thanking her for her help throughout the suT;uner. Mrs. Dayton will look into a gift from the Board as a token of our appreciation for all her volunteer ’work.
Mrs. Dayton r«ad two letters from Dr. Bryxell regarding the proposed brochure on the Moran collection. One letter enclosed samplesand a bid from the Stratford Press in New York City. The cost of 1000 booklets of top quality would be $22U0. After considerable discussion, motion was made bv Miss Sherrill that, subject to Mr. Lockwood’s approval, we order 1000 copies printed on plastic plates from the
’’'felt that this amount would amply allow us to fulfill Miss Ruth Moran's wishes. Motion, was seconded and carried.
WHEREAS God in His infinite wisdom has taken from our midst a well loved friend and loyal member, Adeline Hiller . Sherrill, it is with profound sorrow that the Board of Managers of the East Hampton Free Library takes this occasion to pay tribute to
■ the sterling qualities of an outstanding and irreplaceable citizen of oxir community and a devoted and conscientious member of the Library Board.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED that in the passing of Miss Sherrill we have suffered the loss of a willing and loyal worker and a valuable and resolute member.
RESOLVED that we, the Managers of the Library, pay due tribute for the services rendered in behalf of the Library for the many years of her membership on the Board. She served on the Finance Committee from its inception,and handled the difficult task of Finamce Chairman during the extensive alteration and addition of the Mumford Room. She was quick to volunteer for any need, and carried through her obligations with integrity and capability.
We recognize her vital personality, the warm affection and strong convictions shown in various civic enterprises, eind her remarkable quality for attracting friends. Pew are privileged ifeo enjoy the extensive circle of friends and acquaintances which she held.
She will be remembered for her boundless capacity for the enjoyment of living, for her extensive knowledge of local history, and her justifiable pride in her heritage.
RESOLVED that we offer to her family our abiding sympathy in their sorrow; and
FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be given to her family and be placed in the minutes of this meeting of the Board of Managers.
