You can take it virtually anywhere. Yellow ticket machines are present at most stops. The new ones even take credit cards, so if you’re coinless you might actually get lucky. If not, the tobacconists and mini markets have your back. Be sure to validate your tickets as soon as you enter any metro station, tram car, or bus. NIGHT Although the public transportation system slows down, and the metro checks out between 00.30 and 04.30, buses and trams are still availab- le. In the event that you become mixed up by the Prague roads during your evening, hop over to Lazarská where most of the night trams (and trashed partygoers) converge. Don’t lose your mind if you miss your tram: just chill out in U Kotvy (Spálená 11), advertised as open until 23:00 but often open until 03:00, or Vinárna U Sudu, an after-hours mainstay open until 04:00 (Vodičkova 677/10). THE AIRPORT There are a few different routes to get to the airport. You can take Bus 119 from the Nádraží Veleslavín stop (metro line A); you can take Bus 100 from the Zličín stop (metro line B). They both take around 15 minutes. The third route originates at Hlavní nádraží (metro line C), and lasts around thirty minutes. JUST THE TIP You can also hop on Prague’s funky funicular to visit the Petřín watchtower, or ride the ferries that zig zag the Vltava. Your regular transportation ticket is all you need. NEXT STOP The announcements of stops can be misleading. Remember, first you’ll hear the current stop, followed by the name of the next stop („příští zastávka…“). MAIN STATION The main train station – metro station Hlavní nádraží (line C) The main bus station – metro station Florenc (lines B/C) Wenceslas square – metro station Muzeum (lines A/C) and Můstek (lines A/B) PRICES 24 CZK (up to 30 minutes) / 32 CZK (up to 90 minutes) / 110 CZK (24 hours), 310 CZK (72 hours) Conventional Czech cooking is robust, and will particularly please meat aficionados. ORDER Svíčková (beef with dumplings and creamy sauce) Vepřo-knedlo-zelo (our celebrated mix of pork, dumplings, and steamed cabbage) Smažák (fried cheese square, French fries, dipping sauce) NIBBLE OVER ESPRESSOS Laskonka (coconut macaroon filled with sweet cream) Indiánek (sponge cake with egg-white cream, smothered in chocolate) Rakvička ("a coffin": a brick of sugar batter with whipped cream) Buchty (sweet cake loaded up with poppy seeds, plum jelly, or cottage cheese) Chlebíček (a cut of bread finished with cheese, ham and veggies) DEVOUR WITH LAGER Utopenec (translates as “the drowned man", but it's just pickled sausage with onion and peppers) Nakládaný hermelín (cured camembert cheese) Bramborák (garlicky potato flapjacks) TRANSPORT NATIONAL MUSEUM Since 1818, the National Museum has been collecting natural works of nature for presentation to the public. The museum has more than 15 million objects and artifacts that span the entirety of human history. NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM The Natural History Museum is one of the oldest sectors of the National Museum. It currently consists of four sections, ten departments, and two offices. It’s definitely worth a visit! MUSEUMS GOT CAUGHT? In the event that you happen to not have a ticket, or neglect to validate it, and are apprehended by a ticket inspector, the fine is 800 CZK when you pay it on the spot. If they try to rip you off and ask for more, you can say “no” without any legal recourse. As you make your way, don’t miss the statues of the giant infants, and review “Act Like a Local” for what’s going down in Kampa. The last stop is the gorgeous, photoready Charles Bridge, adorned with 30 monumental sculptures. They may look the part, but most of them are not originals! In addition to the loads of tourists, the bridge is teeming with artisans hawking unexceptional goods at exceptional prices, so buyer beware! To circumvent the masses, arrive promptly after sunrise and appreciate the lovely perspective of the river banks, and inevitably bask in the glow of a pre-breakfast hour Asian wedding photoshoot. THE BRIDGE THAT NEVER SLEEPS Trdelník is a popular, tasty bit of pastry, but its roots are Hungarian, not Czech. Sugary delights such as laskonka, indiánek, and rakvička se šlehačkou are more true manifestations of the local “sweet tooth”. METRONOM/LETNÁ PARK Letná park is an incredible place to go for a culinary excursion, or to play a few games. Stalin's monument was dubbed “Fronta na maso (Meat line)” by the locals, and was named after the primary piece made by Otakar Švec. It was erected in Letná to commemorate Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. At the time, it was the biggest statue of its kind in Europe. It was torn down in 1962, and in 2014, in its place rose the Metronome: a mammoth version of a device used by musicians that allow them to “rock on” in time. The summer season (MAY-SEP) brings with it a plethora of cost-free activities: WED-live shows, THU-summer films, FRI/SAT electronic music, SUN workshops, siesta, climbing. Utilize officially sanctioned taxis … don't take unmarkedcabs - they will scam you

Try not to shop in mini markets - prices are abnormally high

Carry some cash - Bank/credit cards aren’t accepted in every establishment

Use scooters for speedy rides around the city, but don't drink and ride :)

Avoid bar/pub crawls - they serve shoddy beer and cocktails

Be wary of pickpockets - make sure your backpacks, bags, and purses are secured

Ladies: Never let your drink out of your sight!

Always remove your valuables before checking your coats in
