Details of Chapter Activities
1、University of Shanghai for Science and Technology Student SPIE
Chapter academic exchange and recruitment conference in 2008
At 19:00 on December 10 in 2018, the University of Shanghai for Science and
Technology Student SPIE Chapter academic exchange and recruitment conference
was held in the meeting room 1042, school of optoelectronic information and
computer engineering, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. The
conference invited Dr. Feilu from Shanghai Xinsheng semiconductor technology
company and researcher Weixing Shen from Shanghai optical precision machinery
research institute to give an academic lecture. Jihong Zheng, dean of the college of
optoelectronics, and professor Sen Han, SPIE Fellow, attended the meeting. Peng Wu,
vice chairman of SPIE branch, presided over the meeting and introduced the SPIE
students chapter.

In the report, researcher Weixing Shen introduced the influence of intermediate
frequency ripple on ICF laser device of optical element, the division and evaluation
index of wave surface error of high power laser optical element, and several problems
that should be paid attention to in PSD calculation of intermediate frequency ripple in
interferometer measurement.

2、University of Shanghai for Science and Technology Student SPIE
Chapter attended the suzhou huili instrument Open Day
On January 5, 2019, members of SPIE students' chapter attended the opening day
of Huili instruments. On the Open Day, chairman Sen Han introduced the
development history of the company and the company's core technology product
interferometer, and showed us around the company.
In this activity, the members learned about the development course of Huili
instrument company and learned the cutting-edge technology of the company, which
played a positive role in the future work and study.

3、Chairman SPIE visited the University of Shanghai for Science and
Technology Student SPIE Chapter and made report
On March 22, 2019, the academic exchange meeting of the University of
Shanghai for Science and Technology Student SPIE Chapter was held in the meeting
room 1042, school of optoelectronic information and computer engineering in
University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. SPIE chairman Dr. Robert
Lieberman was invited to give an academic lecture. The SPIE Fellow, professor Sen
Han, and Mrs. Robert Lieberman were present at the meeting.
The invitation Dr Robert Lieberman has 34 patents of the biological, physical
and chemical sensor, the meeting had presided over dozens of optical sensor, and help
to push for more than five start-ups, in addition to the optical sensing work, his
interests include research national and international science policy, science and
education and transformation, in 2018 he was elected to the us national academy of
engineering.

Fig. 14 Dr Robert Lieberman makes a report
In his report, Dr. Robert Lieberman describes optical sensors for fossil fuels and
the environment. Photonic sensors for chemical, physical, and geological parameters
have the potential to provide key data on almost all aspects of the energy cycle,
particularly for hydrocarbons, the world's primary energy source. The development
and deployment of photonic sensors can reduce environmental damage associated
with exploration and exploitation of oil and gas, and help protect workers and
residents near fuel production, storage and delivery stations.
Fig. 15 Professor Sen Han answers the students' questions
After the academic report of Dr. Robert Lieberman, students actively asked Dr.
Robert Lieberman and professor Sen Han how to study efficiently and how to
successfully complete their own scientific research tasks. Both Dr. Robert Lieberman
and professor Sen Han answered questions based on their own scientific research
experience for many years, which benefited the students a lot.

After the meeting, Dr. Robert Lieberman visited the ultra-clean laboratory of
optical instruments and precision measurement. Professor Sen Han introduced the
basic situation of the laboratory and the relevant content of high-precision
measurement.
4. Hold on the chapter officers election
Due to some students of the Univ. of Shanghai for Science and Technology club
are going to graduate soon, we had elected new chapter officers for our club. Before
this election, we had introduced our club to other students and invited them who are
interested in the science and application of light to join us.
In this election, we had invited the advisor of our club Prof. Sen Han to join us.
Finally, we had elected new chapter officers. They had introduced themselves and
showed us their plans that they would do something for our club and members.
Future Activities
1. Recruit new members.
2. Brief academic introduction for lower grade students.
3. Inviting experts in optics and photonics to give us lectures about their
recently research.
4. Contacting some good companies in the optical science and application of
light to visit and study.
5. Organizing some entertainments to enhance relationship between our
members.
6. Visiting Lecture of famous professor or scholar.
