Easter Mass Schedule

Dear Friends in Christ,

Our Holy Week begins today with Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem. As we begin these Sacred Days, I would like to thank you for your participation in the various activities of Lent during these past weeks. I hope that the spiritual guide, Living the Eucharist, has helped you this Lent as you looked for the Sacred and Holy during the last 40 days.

The special days of Holy Week are considered to be our High Holy Days as Catholics and the various celebrations are deeply rooted in the traditions of our Catholic faith. I invite you to participate in the liturgies of these Sacred days. If you have never attended the celebrations of Holy Week, perhaps this is the year to attend either individually or as a family. The Holy Week Schedule is listed on this page and may also be referenced on our website, www.annunciationorlando.org

At our Easter Sunday Masses, we will be blessed with many visitors. I thank you in advance for extending a warm Annunciation welcome and hospitality to those who may be here from other faith backgrounds, other places or who do not worship with us on a regular basis. I appreciate your patience as we celebrate our Core Value to be a Welcoming Parish Community.

When you come before the Lord this week, please whisper my name (and the names of the Clergy and Religious Sisters of our parish) to the Almighty. Pray that we are blessed with wisdom, strength and hope during these special days. Know that we will pray for you, your loved ones and your intentions. We may not see each other every day but may we meet each day in our prayers!

In Christ,

Very Rev. Stephen D. Parkes, V.F. Pastor

Our Parish Office and Bookstore will close at 12 noon on Good Friday and will re-open on Tuesday, April 3rd. Easter Blessings to you and your family!

Fastin and Abstinence Durin Lent

Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all those 18 years of age and older who have not yet celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal.

Abstinence is observed on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and on all other Fridays of Lent by all those 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed.

Remember: If your health or your ability to work would be seriously affected, fasting or abstinence does not apply. If in doubt, please speak with one of our Priests or Religious Sisters.

Faith Formation for Adults

Have you been thinking about becoming Catholic?

Do you know someone who might be interested in

becoming Catholic?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults or the RCIA is the process in which an adult becomes Catholic. The RCIA was given to the Church through a directive of Vatican II. It is the restoration of the method by which adults became Catholic Christians in the very early Church. RCIA is a journey of conversion – conversion of the heart and mind!

The first part of RCIA is called “Inquiry” or the Pre-Catechumenate. We will begin our Inquiry sessions on Tuesday, May 1st at 7:00 pm in the Nazareth Center OR on Sunday, May 6th at 9:15 am in the Nazareth Center. To register or for more information, please contact Mary Ann Fox at [email protected] or Cathy Tardif at [email protected] or call 407-869-9472. Pre-registration is not required. There are no fees for the RCIA process.

Adult Confirmation Classes

A new session of Adult Confirmation classes will begin on Wednesday, May 2nd, at 7:00 pm in the St. Gabriel Life Center. We will meet for six consecutive Wednesday evenings, from 7pm to 9pm. The Confirmation will take place on Friday, June 8th at 7:00 pm, at St. James Cathedral in Orlando with Bishop Noonan. These classes are for those over 18, who have already received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Eucharist in the Catholic Church. For more information or to register, please contact Mary Ann Fox at [email protected] or call 407-869-9472.

Divine Mercy Sunday - April 8 Join us on Sunday, April 8 at 2pm for this special devotion with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, The Rosary, Reconciliation, veneration of the Divine Mercy image and recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The Message of Divine Mercy Sunday is that God loves “all of us” no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with

trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. All are welcome. We look forward to praying with you.

Divine Mercy Novena Jesus gave St. Faustina nine intentions for which to pray the Chaplet beginning on Good Friday and ending on Holy Saturday. For links to the Novena prayer or for additional information about Divine Mercy Sunday, please visit www.annunciationorlando.org/divine-mercy

Gospel Reflections

"March 25, 2018 Palm Sunday

Our humanity bleeds through today's Gospel passages in more ways than one. We see both elation and fall, hope in the midst of the darker sides of our nature. If we allow it, these Gospels hold a mirror to our own fickle hearts. The crowds cry "Hosanna" and the Apostles profess allegiance unto death. In a manner of days -- even hours -- Jesus is betrayed, abandoned, denied, condemned, tortured, and executed. As God, he could have stopped this horrific narrative from unfolding, but he doesn't. He allows free will to play itself out.

There are nearly two millennia between this spectacle and us. We can stand safely removed, if we choose. But Lent invites us to return to this story. Lent invites us to find ourselves in the people we encounter there. Are we the repentant woman at Bethany? Are we naysayers of such lavish piety? Have we acted in a way that betrays those we love or denies what we know to be good and true? Have we fallen asleep in our faith? Have we unfairly accused others of a crime or immorality we imagine, though perhaps they didn't commit? Do we help others carry their burdens? Do we stand in solidarity with those who suffer? Do we care for the dying?

This week, take up today's Gospel again. Look carefully at the Passion narrative and sit with it in silence. Find yourself in the story and ponder its meaning for your own life. Journey with Jesus to the foot of the Cross so that you too may say, along with the faithful centurion, "truly this man was the Son of God!"
