But the soul of every piece of de Sede furniture remains the same: a passion for craftsmanship,

attent ion to detail and exquisite leather. In our production facilities, we use only the finest hides.

Heavyweight leather is cut by hand, just as most of the stitches are sewn by hand. Whether we’re working

on a new design or revisiting a timeless classic from the treasure chest that is our archive, the exclusive

character of our furniture emerges in a combination of innovative production techniques with traditional

craftsmanship. de Sede has been making furniture according to these principles since 1965 and our

production shop in Klingnau has remained true to them since day one. With our specialisation in small

Näher verstehen sich auf das Einmaleins des Nähens.

de Sede war Pionier im Einsatz von Chirurgenfäden

für Zickzacknähte, bei der Einstemmung oder bei der

Riemchenabheftung. Beim DS - 51 werden die Sitz-

und Rückenflächen von Hand abgeheftet. Die markan-

ten Handnähte an den Aussenseiten machen den

Lounge-Sessel zu einem exquisiten Meisterstück.

Um eine schöne Naht zu nähen, benötigt man Fingerfertigkeit, Kraft und ein gutes Auge. Man muss sich jedes Mal neu auf ein Leder einstellen. Das A und O ist es, darauf zu achten, dass ich die Nahtpunkte einhalte und sich das Leder beim Nähen nicht verzieht. Das ist Millimeterarbeit, die absolute Präzision erfordert. Wenn ich am Ende eines Tages nach Hause gehe, spüre ich eine grosse Befriedigung. Denn ich habe an einem Produkt gearbeitet, das ich selber auch gerne kaufen würde.

To sew a beautiful seam, dexterity, strength and a good eye are needed. It’s essen tial to adapt to the individual hide each time. The key is to ensure that I keep to the seam points and the leather does not distort while I’m sewing. Every millimetre counts; absolute precision is crucial. When I go home at the end of the day, I feel a great satisfaction. I know that I’ve worked on a product that I would be pleased to buy myself.

Qualitativ hochwertiges Leder erkenne ich blind. Es fühlt sich warm und geschmeidig an, es ist weich wie Samt und es riecht wunderbar. Jede Haut, die wir verarbeiten, trägt ihre individuellen Merkmale. Die Kunst besteht darin, eine Haut optimal auszunutzen, sodass möglichst wenig Abfälle pro duziert werden. Denn ein Naturprodukt ist etwas Kostbares. Noch nach all den Jahren fasziniert mich der Moment, in dem ein fertiges Sofa vor mir steht: die Verbindung einzelner Häute zu einem perfekten Ganzen.

The art is knowing how to use the hide so that there’s as little waste as possible. A natural product is something precious. Beim Polstern muss jede Klammer und jede Schraube richtig sitzen. Dazu braucht es Genauigkeit und Geduld. Ohne ehrliche Handarbeit ist das nicht möglich. Das Wichtigste ist jeweils, dass die Nähte zusammenpassen. Ich arbeite zwar mit Winkel und Metermass, aber zum Schluss ist es auch das Auge, das darüber wacht, dass kein Millimeter daneben liegt. Das Polstern erfordert viel Kraft, die Arbeit hält einen somit fit. Aber am Ende hat man die feinsten Hände. Das kommt vom vielen Ziehen, Streicheln und Klopfen des weichen Leders.

In upholstery, every bracket and screw has to be just right. You need to be very precise and have a lot of patience. Without honest craftsmanship, it’s just not possible. The most important thing is that the seams match. I work with a square and tape measure, but at the end of the day it’s the eye that ensures you’re not a millimetre off. Upholstery demands a lot of strength, so the work keeps you in shape. But in the end you have the best hands – that comes from pulling, stroking and pounding the soft leather.

Beim Polstern muss jede Klammer und jede Schraube richtig sitzen. Dazu braucht es Genauigkeit und Geduld. Ohne ehrliche Handarbeit ist das nicht möglich. Das Wichtigste ist jeweils, dass die Nähte zusammenpassen. Ich arbeite zwar mit Winkel und Metermass, aber zum Schluss ist es auch das Auge, das darüber wacht, dass kein Millimeter daneben liegt. Das Polstern erfordert viel Kraft, die Arbeit hält einen somit fit. Aber am Ende hat man die feinsten Hände. Das kommt vom vielen Ziehen, Streicheln und Klopfen des weichen Leders.

In upholstery, every bracket and screw has to be just right. You need to be very precise and have a lot of patience. Without honest craftsmanship, it’s just not possible. The most important thing is that the seams match. I work with a square and tape measure, but at the end of the day it’s the eye that ensures you’re not a millimetre off. Upholstery demands a lot of strength, so the work keeps you in shape. But in the end you have the best hands – that comes from pulling, stroking and pounding the soft leather.
