Communities vs Traditional InstitutionsDan Franc, [email protected], @danfrancGlobal Program Manager, Google Developers

How will the industry cope with

disruptions?

Do we have people to drive

the innovations?

EDUCATION is one of the key

answers - but existing educational

institutions are not catching up

Higher Education?

“Thirty years from now the big university campuses will be relics. Universities won’t survive. It’s as large a change as when we first got the printed book.” (management guru Peter Drucker, twenty years ago)

NON AUTOMATED JOBS - Design, Leadership, “Human touch”, Creative, etc.

HI-TECH JOBS

ENTREPRENEURSHIP, esp. in niche services and high-added value services SMBs and micro-businesses

VS

Secondary Education?

Elementary Education?

Creativity…?

People skills…?

Lifelong learning….?

Initiative…?

Traditional educational

institutions don’t react fast enough

and their culture is not aligned with today’s needs

And this is a problem extending any single company, industry or

nation.

We have to find a way to give people the

necessary skills in a different way.

And we need it NOW

1. available anytime to anyone, anywhere2. reacting to what’s happening NOW3. allowing people to build their curriculum4. globally scalable and immediately

executable - not centrally managed5. not dependent on large project schemas or

organizations6. not just educating people, but also creating

new connections among them and motivating them for action

7. not removing the social element from learning

We found that in meetup communities

Google Developer Groups, Google Business Groups and Google Educator Groups: emerged from several brands since 2007 (incl. GUG.cz, which ran the first ever meetup)

Self-Organised In-personEducational & Networking Meetups

just GDGs: 114 countries, 620 chapters, 3000+ volunteer leads
