PRESIDENT’SREPORTHANZAexperiencedayearofnewdevelopmentinsomeareasandfrustrationinothers.WearedelightedthatthenewHomesharepilotprogramHomeShareMelbourneistobeaprogramofHANZAInc.ThecommitteeofmanagementagreedthattheprogramsitswellwithHANZAandthatnewpossibilitiesforinfluenceandexpansionforHANZAwillpresentinfuture.

HANZAhasmaintaineditsworktoachieverecognitionofHomeshareasavalid,chargeablelineitemwithinMyAgedCareorNDIS(NationalDisabilityInsurance

Scheme).MinisterKenWyatt’spositivereceptionofHomeshareattheRoundTableinCanberralastOctoberwasencouraging.WearecertainthatHomesharewillbetheanswerformanypeopleinfuture;itisa“nobrainer”andtheprogramisestablishedsecurelyinmanycountriesaroundtheworld.

SpecialrecognitionisattributedtoBerisCampbellOAM,ourHomeshareprogramconsultant.BerisalwaysplaysavitalroleinallHANZA’sactivitiesandinitiatives.WesimplycouldnotprogressourworkofspreadingtheHomesharemessagewithoutherinput,newideasandongoingvoluntarywork.

CarmelHurstOAM,HANZA’sfounderandCommitteeofManagementSecretary,whobroughttheconceptofHomesharetoAustralia,istoresignatthe2018AnnualGeneralMeeting.Iacceptherresignationreluctantly.Carmelhasbeenourinspirationtoworksohardforthelasttwentyyears,andhasbeenadevotedandactivememberofHANZAInc.Wearesadtoseeherfinishherformalroleonthecommittee,however,shehaspromisedtostayinvolvedwithHANZAandtocontinuetospreadthewordaboutHomeshare.ThanksforeverythingCarmel!

DeniseKeigheryresignedfromthecommitteeofmanagementduetoincreasedfamilycommitments.WearesorrytoloseDenisewhoworkedwithCarmelonthePromotionssubcommitteeandhasbeenasupporterofHomeshareformanyyears.Denisetoowillcontinuetoassistuswhenevershecan.

IamexcitedtoannouncethatHANZAhasaspecialresolutionatthe2018AGM,toincreasenumbersonthecommitteeofmanagementfromseventoninemembers.ThisincreasewillallowustorecruitnewandessentialskillstotheCOM.IamdelightedtoannouncethatHeatherMcKeeOAM,DrMegMontagueandNancyNortonareallstandingforelectionatthe2018AGM.HeatherworkedwithBerisCampbellovermanyyearsonmultipleprojectsandprogramsinthePortPhilliparea.MeghasbeenourHomesharechampionformanyyears.MegfacilitatedallourrecentplanningsessionsandwastheprincipalauthoroftheHomesharePlanningandOperationalManual.NancybringsheryearsofexperienceincommunitycareandexcellentmanagementskillstoHANZA.Wewillbedelightedtoaddsuchtalentedpeopletoourcommittee.

Asthisyearfinishesonsuchanoptimisticnote,Ithankthecommitteeofmanagementmembersfortheirdedicationandtirelesswork.Theyareunsungheroes!Andthankstoo,toourpastpresidentShirleyAnderson,whohassupportedHANZAbytakingCOMmeetingminutessinceherretirement.Althoughretiringfromthattask,ShirleywillremainasavitalmemberoftheGovernanceandSystemssubcommittee.

Thankstoo,toourgenerousdonors,whohavesustainedHANZAandmadeHomeshareMelbournepossibleintheperioduntilsubstantialfundingisaccomplished.

SECRETARY’SFAREWELLMESSAGEIamretiringfromtheHANZAcommitteeofmanagementatthistime.Thistimeisright,withsignificantchangestoHANZAandtothefundingarrangementsonwhichitdepends.

Reflectingonmyinvolvementover21years,IcanonlysaywhataninterestingrideithasbeenwithcompanionsIgreatlyrespectandforacauseinwhichIpassionatelybelieve.

TheHANZAcommitteehasnewbloodandawiderambition.Iwishitwellandamconvincedoftheultimatesuccessofsuchasplendidcause.HomeshareisonthemoveinmanycountriesandIamproudtohavebeenapartofitallandhavesharedinsomuchgoodworkandsuchgoodfellowship.

HOMESHARERoundTable

HANZAwasonahighaswestartedthisyearworkingwithTheAustraliaInstitutetowardsthesuccessfulHomeshareRoundTablethatwasheldinParliamentHouse,Canberraon24October2017.WithsupportfromHANZAmembersUnitingVicTas,CommunityConnectionsACTandHoldsworthCommunityNSW,HANZApresentedthehomeshareprogramtoAgedCareMinisterKenWyattandseniorbureaucratsfromHealthandtheNDIS.StrongsupportwasalsoprovidedbypeakagedcareanddisabilityorganisationsACSA,LASA,COTAandNDA.

• 2018 started with a proud moment for HANZA with our President, Annette Madden, receiving anOAM(Order of Australia medal) in the Australia Day honours for services to aged care. Her OAMrepresentswell-deservedrecognitionforherlonganddistinguishedcareer.

• HANZA’sfocusin2018hasbeenonHomeShareMelbourne,whichisdiscussedinmoredetailbelow.

• HANZAformed,andconvened,theHomeshareVicBranchwiththeestablishedMelbournehomeshareprogramsofUnitingVicTasandCareConnectandthenewprogram,HomeShareMelbourne.Thekeyobject is to follow up from the Round Table by continuing to advocate for homeshare and itsacceptanceasaserviceoption inMyAgedCareandtheNDISandtopreparethefundedhomeshareprogramsfortransitionfromblockfundingtobill-by-the-hourservicesby2020.

• Wesley Homeshare and LifeAssist Homeshare merged over 2017-18, forming Uniting Homeshare,which servicesboth theEasternandSouthernmetro regionsofMelbourne.This changeoccurredaspartof a largermergerof23UnitingCareorganisations to formUnitingVic Tas. Themerger should

helpUnitingHomesharetogrowstronglywiththecombinedresourcesofalargerorganizationbehindit.

• WorkwithHoldsworthCommunity,NSW,toestablishanewhomeshareprogramgatheredpacethisyear.HANZAhostedastudytourofMelbourneprogramsbyHoldsworth’sstaffinMay,engagedinmanytelemeetings,exchangesofdocumentsandupdates!ThisiswonderfulnewsforNSW,whichhasbeencryingoutforahomeshareprogramformanyyears.

• In September, Holdsworth Homeshare receivedsignificant media coverage for one of theirmatches. The story ran on ABC radio andonline,(pictured) and provided great publicity fortheprogram’sofficiallaunchinOctober.

• AgeConcernHawkesBayhasestablishedanewhomeshareprogram.Logodesigned,coordinatorappointedandfirstmatcheshavealreadybeenmade!Ifthepilotissuccessful,AgeConcernNewZealandwilllookathowitcanbeofferedtootherAgeConcernbranchesthroughoutNewZealand!

• HANZAisinvolvedinplanningforthe6thWorldHomeshareCongress,tobeheldinBelgium,21-22March2019.Ourhomeshareconsultant,BerisCampbell,willleadaworkshopon“TakinganationalapproachtoHomesharedevelopment”.

HOMESHAREMELBOURNE—Creatingsafeandaffordablehousingoptions

HomeShareMelbourneisanewHANZAprogramthataimstotakethehomesharemodelthathasworkedsowellinagedcareandextendittotheareaofsocialhousing.ItaimstousehomesharetohelpaddressMelbourne’shousingcrisis.Thedevelopmentandoperationofthisnewprogramhasbeenanexciting,butalsodaunting,challengeforHANZA!Ithasconsumedmuchofourenergythisyear,butitisachallengewehaveeagerlyembraced.

HANZAflaggeditsintentiontotestabroadermarketbackin2015attheWorldHomeshareCongress,whichwehostedinMelbourne.“Wewanttoappealnotjusttopeopleseekinga‘live-insupport’persontosharewith,”BerisCampbelltoldtheconferenceaudience,“butalsotoreachouttoactiveolderhouseholders—ortopeopleofanyage,really—whoarelivinginunder-occupiedhousing.Wewanttoencourage[thosehouseholders]tobealtruistic[and]tocontributetosolvingthehousingcrisis,especiallyinareaswherethereareaffordablehousingshortages.HANZA’sambitionisforhomesharetoplayasignificantroleintheSocialHousingmarket,inadditiontothe‘Care’or‘Live-InSupport’market.”

In2016,withassistancefromHANZA,theSouthPortCommunityHousingGroup(SPCHG)—asignificantinnerMelbournesocialhousingprovider—commissionedadetailedtwo-stagestudytodeterminethefeasibilityofoperatingahomeshareprogramasanaffordablesharehousingprogramintheCityofPortPhillipandsurroundingareas.

Followingthefeasibilitystudy,LaunchHousing—alargersocialhousingassociation—joinedthepartnershipandsteeringcommitteetoleadtheprojectforward.AProgramDevelopmentOfficer,CarlaRaynes,wasengagedinOctober2017andsettoworkondevelopingthemodelandthebusinesscaseforHomeShareMelbourne.

BytheendofJune2018anagreementwasreachedbetweenthevariouspartiesthatHANZAwouldtakeonthemanagementandoperationofthenewprogram,withSPCHGandLaunchHousingmaintainingasupportiverole.ItwasagreedthatHANZAwasinthebestpositiontogiveHomeShareMelbourneitsbestshotandmakeittheirtoppriority.Localandoverseasexperiencehasclearlyshownthathomeshareprogramswillthrivebestwhensupportedanddirectedbyaparentorganisationthatplacesahighpriorityontheprogram,anddedicatessufficientresourcestoenableittogrow.

Althoughweareaverysmallorganisation,webelievethatHANZAhastheknowledgeandexperienceneededtotakeupthechallengeofestablishingandmanaginganewprogram.HANZA’sgenerousdonorsprovidedsufficientresourcesforCarlatocontinuedevelopingtheprogrammodelfrom1July2018andestablishthepilot.

Pursuitofsubstantialstart-upfundshasbeenamajorfocusaswe’vecomeintothisnewfinancialyear.Wehavealsobeennetworkingandbuildingnewrelationships,particularlywithorganisationsseekingaffordablehousingoptionsforvulnerablegroupssuchasasylumseekers,womenover55,andyoungpeoplewithlittleornoincome.OurmostexcitingnewpartnershipiswithFlatmates.com.au—Australia’slargestshareaccommodationplatform—whichpromisestoreallytakehomeshare‘outthere’andintothemainstream.

2018-19willbeaverybigandexcitingyear!

FINANCIALREPORT—2017-2018HANZAfinishedthe2017/2018financialyearwithnetassetsof$46,987.56,whichrepresentsa$14,782.55increaseonthepreviousyear.

TheenhancedfinancialpositionofHANZAwasduetosomesignificantandgenerousdonors,particularlytheWishartfamilytogetherwithHeatherCampbellandBerisCampbell.Wethankthemfortheircontinuedfaithin,andsupportof,HANZAandtheHomesharemovement.Withtheircontributions,wecancontinuetoexpandthevisionofHomeshareinAustraliaandNewZealand.

AnotherunexpecteddonationcamefromtheLordMayor’sCharitableFoundationinrecognitionofHANZA’sparticipationinits2017YouthinPhilanthropyProgram.

AlthoughsubscriptionsfromorganisationsconductingorplanningHomeshareprogramsweredownonpreviousyears,individualmembershipsincreasedwhichdemonstratesanexpansionofpersonalinterestin,andsupportof,theHomeshareprogram.AwelcomedevelopmentwastheadditiontotheHANZAfamilyoftwoorganisationsinNewSouthWales—theCityofParramattaandHoldsworthCommunity,andanewNewZealandmember—AgeConcern,HawkesBay.

Toexpanditssocialnetworksandfollowers,HANZAmadesignificantoutlaysintotheenhancementandmaintenanceofitswebsite.ThisefforthasbeenrewardedwithincreasedawarenessandinterestinHANZAandwhatitstandsfor.ThewebsitecontinuestobeapointofcontactforthoseorganisationswishingtostartaHomeshareprogramandthoseindividualswhoareseekingHomeshareservices.

OthersignificantexpenditurerelatedtotheremainingpaymentsfortheHomesharetrainingprogram,whichhasbeendevelopedbyBorderlandsCooperative,inconjunctionwithHANZA.ThishasbeenaprojectdesignedtoreinforcetheprofessionalnatureofHomeshare’sactivities.

TofacilitateHANZA’songoingpromotionoftheroleofHomeshareinthechangingenvironmentofagedcareanddisabilitysupportservices,paymentwasmadefortheoccasionaluseofofficespaceinCanberraviaEthicalProperties.ThisenabledtheHANZArepresentative,BerisCampbell,topreparefor,andattendmeetingswiththeMinisterforAgedCareandhisadvisorstogetherwithTheAustraliaInstitute.

HANZAremainsinapositiontoexplorepermutationsandvariationswithintheInternationalHomesharemodelespeciallyina“userpays”environment.Itscapacitytoadapttothetimeswillbecrucialtoexpandingitsreachtodiverseconsumergroups.
