    Application

SIMEAS P is a panel-mounteddevice for direct reading ofpower system parameters. With a very simpleconfiguration, the display ofmeasured values is adaptableto the specific requirements ofthe user.Network linking is possible withthe integral RS485 portequipped with the standardProfibus DP protocol (optional:Modbus, DNP V3.0) whichprovides for indication, evaluation and processing ofseveral SIMEAS P measuredparameters at a central masterstation.

    Technology

Powerful onboardmicroprocessors ensure ultra-fast registration and updating ofmeasured parameters.SIMEAS P can be connected toany power system configurationdirectly (up to 690V-networks)or via transformer - from single-phase to four-wire balanced orunbalanced three-phasesystems. The power supply unitallows rated supply voltagesfrom 24 to 250 V/DC and 100 to230V/AC making the SIMEASP ruly universal.

    Design

The front panel with integratedkeys and high-resolution blue-backlit graphic display gives theSIMEAS P a clean appearancethat emphasizes its high techfeatures.

    Operation

The SIMEAS P simplicity ofdesign translates into easy andcomprehensive operation.Terminology and descriptions innational language provides forrapid menu-assistedconfiguration of the unit.

    Display

All measured parameters canbe displayed on the SIMEAS Pscreens as required by theuser. Up to 20 screens can beselected with the front keys.Number, type, content andsequence of the screens areconfigurable.SIMEAS P is delivered withprogrammed default settings.A status line displayed in themeasured value screensindicates status, interfacing anddiagnostic messages ofSIMEAS P.The status line is automaticallyrefreshed every 500ms.

    Measuring functions

Measured input voltages andinput currents are sampled forcalculation of the correspondingr.m.s. values. All variablesderived from measured valuesare calculated by a processor. They can be displayed on thescreens and/or transmitted viathe serial interface. With the SIMEAS P it is alsopossible to parameterizeseveral limit value groups withlimit values of the measuredparameters. These may becombined with logical elementssuch as AND,OR; violations arecounted and indicated on thescreen or made available at thebinary outputs. Triggering of theoscilloscope is possible as well.

    Quality

The high quality of SIMEAS Pis guaranteed by developmentand production in our ISO-9001certified facilities in Berlin/Germany. For the user, thistranslates into high systemsecurity, reliability and longtrouble-free product life.SIMEAS quality meanscontinuously high accuracyover years, CE-labelling,electromagnetic compatibilityand compliance with all relevantnational and internationalstandards.

    Security

Electrical isolation betweeninputs and outputs, assured byhigh voltage testing, guaranteesmaximum system security.Configuration and calibrationsettings are tamperproof bypassword protection.

    Service

SIMEAS P units are availableex stock. They require nomaintenance and are easy toservice due to their modulardesign. The units can easily becalibrated from the front keys orwith PC-based configurationsoftware.

    Figure 2.1

    Communication

As communication betweenfield devices is becomingstandard, development of theSIMEAS P communicationinterface focussed on theuniversality and flexibility of thetransmission protocol. It isconnected via an RS485 portwith standard 9-pin Cannonconnector. SIMEAS P units aredelivered with a standardProfibus DP protocol withtransmission rates of up to 12Mbit/s. With auxiliary softwareSIMEAS P can also use othercommunication protocols. Theintegration of Modbus and DNPV3 is in preparation. Futureprotocols or modifications andextensions of present standardprotocols can be integratedlater. Since SIMEAS P is notdependent on a specialtransmission protocol, it iseasier for the user to integrateSIMEAS P into a field bussystem at a later date withoutthe worry of having decided onthe wrong protocol.

    Inputs/ Outputs

Figure 2.1 shows the I/O pinconfiguration of SIMEAS P.Depending on the type ofsystem, the non-required inputsremain unassigned.

The auxiliary configurationpackage comprises a RS232/ RS485 bus converter withcable connectors andconfiguration, visualizationand evaluation software. Theconverter connects theSIMEAS P to any standardnotebook or PC by means ofa 9-pin Cannon connectors.Installation under Windows95 / NT.

    SIMEAS P Software

With the SIMEAS P softwarethe user benefits from asimple and user friendly toolwith which will exploit thefunctions of the SIMEAS Peven more efficiently. Thepackage consists of threeprogram units which may beinstalled separately asrequested.

    a Configurationa Visualizationa Evaluation

    Configuration

The configuration softwareas shown in figure 2designed for ultrafastconfiguration of SIMEAS Punits. The user can set andstore parameters evenwithout having the acutal unitby his side. The parameterswill be transferred bySIMEAS P when theSend tounit command is activated. In this manner a number ofSIMEAS P units can beconfigured with minimumeffort. The stored set ofparameters is simply re-loaded when a unit has to bereplaced. Furthermore, communication protocols andfirmware updates can beloaded with help of theSIMEAS P software.

    Visualization

The SIMEAS P softwareoffers the user the possibilityof online retrieval, evaluationand time-stamp printing ofmeasured values remotelyfrom a PC or notebook.

Independent of the SIMEASP display all measuredparameters determined inSIMEAS P can be presentedon a graphic display.

    Evaluation

The sinusoidal or r.m.s.-values recorded by SIMEASP can be displayed (figure 4)and processed veryprofessionally and printed outin graphical or tabular form. All relevant measured valuescan also be selected andrecorded from the PC ornotebook with the same pos-sibilities of representationand evaluation. The records may besubjected to furtherprocessing by a variety ofuser-friendly tools.Setting or shifting of up to 8cursors is possible withonline representation of themeasured values at thespecific cursor position intabular form.Other features:Zooming; labelling; storingand printing of selectedmeasured variables etc.
