This year also Vanmahotsav day was observed. Hon’ble Justice Dr. P. Jyothimani was the chief guest and he along with the members of the board Mrs. Swathandra Sakthivel, Mrs. Nanthidha Krishna, and Vidyodaya School Head mistress Mrs. Shanthi and Mrs. Leena and Exnora International Joint General Secretary R. Govindaraj planted the saplings, with the energetic participation of the staff and students. The students enacted a Pantomime entitled “Plant a Tree and Plant a New Life” followed by a video presentation on “Trees the breath of life”. He also inspected the march past of the Davinci, Einstien, Ramanujar and Rembrant houses and took the salute. The crown of the day was the independent day message that stressed on the values to be inculcated, the blessings to be thankful for and to develop zeal to break the barriers to reach the pinnacle. Master naveen Vivek shared his experiences at the Mock United nation at the Bishop Cotton School, Bangalore. The music played by the school band also triggered patriotic fervor and the spirit of One India in both the young and the old audience. Nandini Voice for The Deprived, a Chennai based NGO, is organizing an All India Essay Competition on “Why India’s disappointing performance in Rio Olympics and how to do better in the next?”

Objective: The performance of Indian sports persons in the Rio Olympics have caused huge disappointment all over India. Some of the best sports persons from India, who many thought would bring medals, could not succeed. Many wonder as to why a country of India’s size, population and capability could not win medals in Rio Olym-pics, when even countries facing huge problems due to poverty and internal strifes such as Ethiopia show better results.

The objective of essay competition is to provide an opportunity to Indians living in India and abroad to express their views by dispassionate analysis and suggest ap-propriate action plans, so that India can achieve better results in the next Olympics.

The views and suggestions of the participants in the essay competition would be forwarded to the Prime Minister for his study.
