Immunity

Learning Objectives

• By the end of this lecture……….we all should be able:– To appreciate the organization of immune system– Understand the disorders related to immune

system– Explain the underlying mechanisms of immune

disorders

Functions of Immune System

Innate and Adaptive imunity

Primary and Secondary Response

B and T Cells

Memory Cells

Macrophage development

Complement Proteins

Immunoglobulins• Papaine splits the immunoglobulin

molecule into three fragments.– Two similar, each containing an

antibody site capable of combining with a specific antigen antigen-binding fragment or Fab

– The Crystallizable fragment Fc

The immunoglobulin molecule is made up of four polypeptidechains:•Two light(L) 220 AA •Two heavy (H) 440 AAEach Fab fragment is composed of L chains linked to the amino-terminal portion of the H chains,Fc fragment is composed only of the carboxv-terminal portion of the H chain

Immunoglobulins

Antibody mediated diseases

Immune complex diseases

T Cell Mediated Diseases
