    FOREWORD

The University of Peradeniya is pleased to present its Statistical Handbook 2007, the annual publication of statistics, which provides statistical information about the University of Peradeniya. Planning and managing the activities of an Institution requires a comprehensive understanding of its work, both past and present. This cannot be achieved unless relevant data are collected and made available to those who make decisions at various levels. I hope that this Statistical Handbook would be helpful to all who seek such information. I wish to place on record my appreciation of all those who extended their support to make this publication a reality. I also wish to thank, the Statistical Officer and the staff of the Statistics & Information Unit for their work in producing this publication. Any suggestions for the improvement of this handbook are very much appreciated. This Handbook appears on website www.pdn.ac.lk/news/handbook Prof. H. Abeygunawardena Vice Chancellor University of Peradeniya Peradeniya November 2008.
