Illustrator Gradients   Gradient fill

A gradual blend between two or more colors.

Gradient Mesh   Can be linear (side to side) or radial (out from center)

To create and save a two-color gradient.   Starting point and Ending point   Midpoint (diamond): where the starting and ending colors are

of equal amount.

Gradient Mesh   To achieve asymmetrical designs with gradients.   Create realistic blends that follow the contours of a specific

shape.

Breakdown of a Mesh   Features:

  A. Mesh Patch: This is the inner space, or fill, that displays the gradient’s color.   B. Mesh Point: Each mesh patch has four connecting points that are much the

same as anchor points.   C. Mesh Line: This is the connecting segment between mesh points.   D. Control Handles: Each mesh point is a curving smooth point with its own

control handle adjusting the curving of the mesh lines.

Mesh Tool   Allows you to manually apply a gradient mesh to an object.   Must have a tangible fill.   Create a Mesh Point anytime you click in the mesh grid, and

a mesh line appears.

A.  Not touching a valid object. B.  Can apply a gradient mesh.

How to Create  A. Click on mesh grid, mesh line appear that extends to

the edge of the object.  B. Click one existing mesh line to add a new point.  C. Continue to create points and lines until the grid is

positioned according to your design.

Remember   Mesh points define the overall appearance of the gradient

because all colors extend outward from them and into surrounding patches.

Colors assigned to the mesh points blend into the colors of the patch, and become highlight or shadow regions.
