Location - southern part of North America.
It lies between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.
Neighbours - Canada to the north and Mexico to the south.

Population - more than 300 million people.
Area - more than 9 million square kilometres.
It is the fourth largest country in the world.

The system of Federal Government of the United States was established by the
Constitution, ratified in 1788.
50 states joined in a federal republic.
The head of state is the President.

The highest mountains are situated in the western part of the country.
They are the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada with the highest mountain Mt. Whitney (4,421 m
high).
The highest peak in the USA is in Alaska – it is Mount McKinley in the Alaska Range (6,194 m
high).

The USA is rich in coal, petroleum, minerals and timber.
The northeast is the most industrial part of the USA.
The heavy industries are concentrated around the Great Lakes,where raw materials like coal,

The Artic climate in the north (Alaska).
The subtropical climate in the south (Florida) .
